Vera Huff

Vera Huff, a resident of Birmingham, AL departed this life to eternal rest on September 8th, 2023. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, September 16th, 2023, at 11:00am at The Church at Fairview with burial at Oakland Memorial Gardens.  

Vera Lee Huff was born to the late Carrie Bell Huff and Joe McCullum on May 28, 1957, in the town of Bessie’s Mine, in Jefferson County, Alabama. Vera confessed Christ at an early age and united with Lily Grove Baptist Church, in Birmingham, Alabama. Vera was educated in the Birmingham City School System, and was a 1975 graduate of Phillips High School. She was a lifelong resident of Birmingham and very well known in the Druid Hill neighborhood. She had a genuine love for every dog she owned; and for many years, they walked by her side all over the “Hill”. Everyone could tell exactly where she was because her beloved dog waited patiently everywhere she went. Vera was adored by her family and friends. She was lighthearted, generous, and known for giving crafty nicknames and clever insults to all who knew her well. Her smile and personality were one of a kind. She was good natured, kind spirited with a heart of gold, and she never wavered. She gave from her heart and her presence will be sorely missed. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Robert Huff and Melvin Huff. On Friday, September 8, 2023, a beloved mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend heard a familiar voice say, “Vera Lee Huff, Come unto me and rest; Lay down, thou weary one…” She answered and moved to her eternal home to be united with her parents, brothers and other loved ones in the arms of our Lord and Savior. Her life will be forever cherished by her one and only devoted daughter, Alisha Huff-Kirksey (Walter); granddaughter, Jealena Dillard; three sisters, Helen Austin, Shelia Howell and Angela Huff; four generations of nieces and nephews; cousins, dedicated lifelong friends, and a loving community of extended family and friends.
