Mary Alice Allen, a resident of Birmingham, AL departed this life to eternal rest on November 6th, 2023. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, November 18th, 2023, at 11:00am at New Rising Star with burial at Oakland Memorial Gardens.
Mary Alice Allen was born on November 15, 1947, to the late John and Matlida Brown. She was the last of nine children. Mary was preceded in death by her eight loving siblings, Lela Koger, Charles Brown, Johnnie Mae Adams, William Brown, Velma Brown, Morris, Brown, Pauline Jackson and Jessie Payne, and stepdaughter, Sherlya Singeton. She excepted Christ at an early age and joined St. John Baptist church Powderly under the leadership of the late Morris Perry. She also later joined Christ Church under the leadership of Pastor Fred McClure. After she moved to Eastlake, she joined The Star Church under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Thomas Beavers. She was raised in the Powderly Community and attended Powderly Elementary School. She went on to attend A.H. Parker High School. The home of the Thundering Herd where she graduated in May 1966. Mary at the age of 18, in the month of September 1966, met and married her one true love Richard Lee Allen Senior, and to this union two children were born Richard Allen Jr. and Chirica Allen. She was employed by the late Dr. Felix and Sandy Handley. She would later be employed by the Jefferson County Board of Education and work at Berry High School until she retired. On November 6, 2023, God whispered and said, “Mary it’s time to come and live with me. Your work here on earth is done”. She gently took his hand. She leaves to cherish her wonderful memories a son; Richard (Sheila) Allen, daughter; Chirica Allen, seven grandkids; Chianti, Brandon, and Shanise, Allen, Moniqueca Barfield, Julian Mallory, Carlos Singleton Jr., Shaneka Jones, and Cierra Abernathy, four great grandchildren; Diontez, Rontez Allen, Khari McCrary and Aniya Barfield. Sister-In-Law; Alma Gillespie. A host of nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. She also leaves behind her best friend Lytonia Bennette and Goddaughter Lynndrette Bennette. Good friends Ms. Jackie Strawder, Ms. Jayne Ivy, Mr. Willie Lomax, Mr. Kanoba Bradner, Mr. Rodney Arrington, Mr. Charlie E. Brown, Ms. Linda Evans, and Mr. Sterling Slaughter.
