Joanna Foster was born on January 29, 1948, to Joseph Lee Smith, Sr. and Mrs. Eva Mae Smith. Nevertheless, she celebrated her birthday on January 28th until she later learned that she was born after midnight the next day. Growing up Joanna was known as being a strong athletic young lady. She had a personality that was a force to reckon with. To really know her is to love her. She enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren, cooking soul food, music, watching game shows and The Food Network. She loved learning and enjoyed embarking in academics with her grandchildren during their homework time. Joanna was educated in the Birmingham City Schools System. After leaving school, she became a homemaker and relocated to Los Angeles, California along with her husband and children. Joanna was featured on the front page of the California Crusader News, captioned: “Joanna Foster preparing for the New Millennium” she was honored for her outstanding achievement as she received the Laker’s College Scholarship and several other awards. Although she didn’t pursue a higher education, she used her knowledge to assist her grandchildren with their schoolwork. Joanna was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Lee Smith, Sr., Eva Mae Smith; eight siblings, Joseph, Jr, Dorothy Mae, Carolyn, James Stanley, Vivian, and Joseva (Lawrence) Speed; her ex-husband, General Foster, Jr., the father of her four children. She leaves to cherish: a brother, Reginald Smith; her children, Gerald (Melanie) Foster, Darrell Foster, Sr. Eric Sr. (Vicki) Foster and Shalonda Foster (Darryl) Lee; grandchildren, Gerald, Katoya, Terrica, Keisha, Darrell K, Nathaniel, Kyle, Darrell, Jr, Jada, Desmond, McKyle, Brandon, Erica (Jamaal), Uniqua, Eric, Aaron, Jinell (Larry), Rachael, and Dailin; nieces, Traci Allen and Josephine; nephews, Joseph, Marcus, and a host of great grandchildren.
