Eddie Smith, Jr. departed this life on Saturday, July 27, 2019, surrounded by his family at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital. He was born on December 24, 1948 to the late Eddie Smith, Sr. and Fannie Mae Spears in Gallion, Alabama. He then became a lifelong resident of Birmingham, Alabama.He was preceded in death by siblings, Margaret Spears (passed July 24, 2014) and Arthur Smith (Red Bone). He worked at Hardwick Company for over 12 years.He leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted wife of 46 years, Brenda Smith; two devoted sons, Derek Smith and Rodney (Latrice) Colvin; one devoted daughter, Nakia (Michael) Calhoun; siblings, Martha Brown, Mary Smith, Sara Smith, Nellie Spears, George Spears, Bobby Spears and Georgia Mae Crawford and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, August 3rd  , 2019 at 3:30pm at Eastside Funeral Home Chapel.
