Darryl Golson, a resident of Birmingham, AL departed this life on September 20, 2022 to eternal rest. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, September 30, 2022, at 11:00am at Redeeming Grace Full Gospel Church with burial at the Alabama National Cemetery.
Mr. Darryl K. Golson was born on Thursday, September 6, 1962, to Mary E. Jackson and Edward Morrison in Birmingham, Alabama. Darryl, better known as “Dickie” to his family, was full of energy, hardworking, and a perfectionist. He was known as an “overachiever” in every endeavor he encountered. Darryl attended Center Elementary School and later A. H. Parker where he excelled as a “Drum Major” who was known for his white glove. After graduation, he attended Alabama State University. Later, he joined the U. S. Army where he excelled as a Drill Sergeant and Army Recruiter. After leaving the U. S. Army, he worked for Ford Motor Company in Detroit, Michigan and was later transferred to Memphis, Tennessee. Darryl’s love for life was quite evident after beating nonhodgkins lymphoma and later moving to St. Louis, Missouri. His diversity for change led him to achieve an array of successful adventures. Later in life, Darryl professed Christ and was a member and usher at Redeeming Grace Full Gospel Church. Under the leadership of Pastor Betty Bryant, he served with exuberance until his health started to fail enabling him from attending services. He left this life to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 30, 2022, at the age of 60. Darryl was preceded in death by: his mother, Mary E. Reeves; adopted grandparents, Charlie and Dora Golson and nephew, Brandon Reeves. He leaves behind to cherish his memories: two sisters, Mrs. Deborah J. (David) Harris and Minister Kimberly Reeves; two brothers, Steven W. Miller and Vester T. Golson, all of Birmingham, AL; four nieces, LaShaun Miller, Jerijanneice Walker, Amber Cargill and Brianna Lewis; three nephews, Christopher (Shonda) Slay, Gabrielle Douthard and Jerome Cargill and a host of grandnieces, grandnephews, other extended family and friends
