Alice Oberian Holmes

Alice O. Holmes, a resident of Birmingham, AL departed this life to eternal rest on August 7th, 2023. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, August 19th, 2023, at 11:00am at C 2 Church, Fairfield.

Alice Oberian Holmes was born in Birmingham, Alabama on November 13, 1952. She was the oldest of four children born to Ennistine Williams and Leroy Griggs, Sr. She was baptized at an early age at Christ Church of Birmingham under the leadership of Pastor Fred McClure. Alice was educated in the Birmingham Public School system where she was one of the first Black children to integrate Ramsay High School. She then left to move to New York City with her parents where she attended Taft High School. Alice was preceded in death by both parents, as well as her grandmother, Alice Smith; youngest brother, Cornelious Griggs and her husband, Joseph Marvin Holmes, Sr. Alice departed this life on August 7, 2023. She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her son, Joseph Marvin Holmes, Jr.; daughter, Shada E. Sanders (Smiles); brother, Leroy Griggs, Sr.; sister, Janice M. Boyd; seven grandchildren, Brielle, Pharoah, Malesti, Emerii, Wisdom, Brandon and Brooke; two great grandchildren, Ny’ore and Posiedon; four nieces, Takeisha, Christie, Mistie and Shakera; one nephew, Daquan; five great nieces, two great nephews, one great-great niece, all of New York City. Alice also had a special cousin, Billie Peoples, a host of loving sister-cousins, cousins and friends, all of Birmingham, AL and a special longtime friend, Millard Sanders
