The sun rose October 17, 1939 and set April 10, 2019 for Willie James Benefield. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Milton and Rachel Benefield.He gave his life to Christ at an early age and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. He received his education at Hillman High School in Birmingham. While in school, he was known for his athleticism and his speed on the track team.He was united in holy matrimony to the late Daisy Mae Williams Benefield. They lived a beautiful life together, and he will reunite with her in heaven. He retired from McWane Pipe in Birmingham, AL. He devoted his life not only to his career, but also to his neighborhood. Everyone in the neighborhood knew they could count on him to keep the community safe as he was a member of the neighborhood watch.He was preceded in death by his wife, Daisy Benefield and six out of eight brothers: Rudolph Benefield (Vanessa), Jay L. Benefield, Joe L. Benefield (Melody), Eugene Benefield (Deneen), Milton Benefield (Elaine), and John Benefield (Barbara).He leaves to cherish his memories: two brothers Ralph “Charles” Benefield of Birmingham, AL and Albert Benifield (Annie) of Birmingham, AL; three daughters Rachel Benefield Moss (Ronald) of Atlanta, GA, Lanis Brown of Birmingham, AL, stepdaughter Michelle Cole of Atlanta, GA; one son Derrick Earl Moore of Cleveland, OH; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, April 20, 2019 at 1:00pm at Tabernacle Baptist Church with burial at Zion Memorial Gardens.
