Deacon James "JimBoy" Nelson, Jr. was born on February 25, 1949 to the late James and Johnnie Mae Nelson in Birmingham, Alabama. He confessed his faith in Christ at an early age and joined the New Salem Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend H.F. Freeman. He was a faithful member for many years beforejoining New Mount Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend H.L. Williams followed by Reverend Hawood Nelson, Sr., where he remained until his death. He's a graduate of Carrie A. Juggle Elementary School and A.H Parker High School. Upon completing high school, he attended Bishop College in Dallas, Texas, where he earned a Bachelor Degree in Mathematics and Economics. James also received a certificate from Birmingham-Easonian Baptist Bible College in Religious Education. He was hired by The State of Alabama to teach Alternative School in Mathematics and Physical
Education. He was in the United States Navy serving from 1970-1974, where he was honorably discharged. On Thursday, August 1, 2019, the cord called James home. He is
joined in death by his parents,James andJohnnie Mae Nelson; two sisters, Eugenia "Faye"jones andJohnnie Mae Harris. James leaves to cherish his memory: one son, James, Ill (Sherita)
Nelson of Birmingham, AL; three daughters, Tiniquia Nelson, Sherita Scott and Jeanette Scott, all of Birmingham, AL; their mother, Sherry Nelson; one goddaughter, Enez (Larry) Plump; eight amazing grandchildren, Janiya, JaKaria, JVeon, JaLeyah, Jakobe, JaMarrius, Darius and DeMario; four sisters, Mary Gaines, Pastor Doris Marshall, Evangelist Brenda Nelson
and Catherinejones; one brother, Reverend Hawood, Sr. (Pamela) Nelson of Birmingham, AL and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, August 9, 2019 at 10:00am at New Mt. Olive Baptist Church with burial at the Alabama National Cemetery.
