Mrs. Dorothy McPherson Jones was born on June 11, 1928, to the late Burrell McPherson and Aurelia Smith. She was married to the late Clarence "Tony" Jones. Mrs. Jones, age 89, passed away at her home in Birmingham Alabama surrounded by family and friends on Tuesday, March 6, 2018.
Dorothy received her formal education through the Birmingham Public School System. She accepted Christ as her Savior at First Missionary Baptist Church of East Thomas under the leadership of Reverend J.A. Hayes, where she served as a faithful member who truly loved the Lord. She later joined Faith Chapel Christian Church under the leadership of Dr. Michael Moore where she attended faithfully until she transitioned to be with the Heavenly Father.
Dorothy received the 'Outstanding Mother Award' from Metro Birmingham Branch, NAACP #5006 on May 9, 2010. She also served as the secretary of East Thomas Neighborhood Association under the late Emmanuel Ford. In her leisure time, Dorothy enjoyed baking, cooking, taking care of others, and playing BINGO. She was known for her famous barbeque and barbeque sauce.
Dorothy was truly blessed; she was the matriarch for the family of five generations. She was preceded in death by her parents, Burrell McPherson and Aurelia Smith; son Percy "Sandy" (Saundra) Jones; four sisters, Leila Dawson, Lillie McIntyre, Juanita Jordan, and Sadie Robinson; one brother, Willie James Woods.
She leaves to cherish her memory three sons, Jerald J. Jones, Jeffery (Kim) J. Jones, of Birmingham, Alabama, and Jonathan (Ineathea) J. Jones of Stone Mountain, Georgia. Four daughters, Patricee D. Jones, Veda R. Jones, Natasha J. Jones, and Kova Y. Jones, of Birmingham, Alabama. Two brothers, Marvin (Marian) Brown of Upper Marlboro, Maryland and Mohan Muhammad of Chicago, Illinois. One brother in law, Carl Robinson of San Diego, California. One God-son, Terry Harper of Marengo County, Alabama; several step-sons and step-daughters.Grandchildren,great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
