Willie Barnes, a resident of Birmingham, AL departed this life on October 30, 2017. Funeral services scheduled for Saturday, November 4 at 2:00pm at 1st Baptist Church Woodward with interment at Alabama National Cemetery on November 6, 2017 at 10:15 am.

Mr. Willie Lee Barnes was born April 3, 1941, to the late Willie Barnes and Lula Margarette Thompson in Walker County of Parrish, AL.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Willie L. Barnes.

He was educated at the Walker County Training School System in Jasper, AL.  Mr. Barnes served his country in the United States Army where he received an honorable discharge.  He also served in the Vietnam War.

After living a life for several years without spiritual guidance, Mr. Willie L. Barnes accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.  His confession was made at First Baptist Church, Woodard in Brighton, AL, where he was baptized under the pastoral leadership of Pastor Adolphus Moody.

He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife, Ola Mae Tyson of 40+ years; step children Rev. Viola (Collie) Freeman, Sr., Birmingham, AL, Jessie (Robert) Peterson, Sr. of Circleville, OH, Cynthia T. Silmon, Carl (ShaRon) Tyson, Quileria Tyson, Twana Tyson, Danita Tyson (Evora Anderson), all of Birmingham, AL; step-grandchildren: Collie (Marvette) Freeman, Jr.,  Birmingham, AL, Marvin Freeman, Sr., Atlanta, GA, Venita Freeman, Brandi Rudolph all of Birmingham,  Kenneth (Erica) Simpson, Jr., Chelsea, AL, Robert (Jessica) Peterson, Jr., Letita Sanders all of Atlanta, GA, Portia Tyson, Quentin Tyson, Frantisha Tyson, Marquisha Tyson, TeJuan Tyson, DeVontey Anderson, and Danisha Tyson, all of Birmingham, AL; step great grandchildren: Brittany Mason, Maya Freeman, Malika Freeman, Israel Freeman, Moriah Freeman, Malaya Freeman, Marvin Freeman, II, Makaria Freeman, Venice Freeman, JuQuoinna Simpson, Kenneth Simpson, III, Kendrick Simpson, Kennedi Simpson, Patrick Rudolph Jr., Branden Oliver, Birmingham, AL. Xiomara Peterson, Zaria Peterson, Atlanta, GA, Carlie Phillips, Marquez Tyson of Birmingham, AL; one brother, Carl Barnes, Brighton, AL, four nieces: Carlene (Rev. Adolphus) Moody, Victoria (Michael) Pollard, Shirley Barnes and Cassandra Barnes, and one nephew, Carl Barnes, Jr. and a host of other relatives and friends.
