Mommy,
As I sit here a few days before Mother's Day, I have tears in my eyes because I just want to hear your voice one more time. Life has not been the same without you! The void is still so real! I know that you are in heaven having the biggest praise part ever. I love and miss you so much! RIH mommy!

Your baby girl,
Penny

Remembering My Baby Sister Evelyn
From Big Sister Jackie

On August 16th I returned home to Birmingham after many years!!! It was for a very special and bittersweet reason. To spend valuable, quality and more importantly the last moments that I would spend with my baby sister, Evelyn.
Our sister Carolyn, Aunt Gladys, Penny and other family members had kept me informed of the progression of Evelyn’s illness.
I made my reservations on Tuesday and flew into Birmingham on Wednesday to spend one week with Evelyn. We talked about everyone and everything. Momma, Daddy, Bubba, Grandma Polly, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, many parts of our childhood, our dog SheWee and she even asked me if I remembered when I used to beat her butt. (with a smile!)
Carolyn and I would visit Evelyn every day, talk, laugh, and yes sometimes even cry a little. All in all I wanted to make the most of our time together.
I decorated a special live orchid and hand carried it all the way from Monterey, California especially for Evelyn. We would bring her little gifts when we visited, pretty little tops (with bling of course), and a coffee mug that said “Family Is Forever”, and in the mug sat a little white French Poodle that Evelyn named SheWee! And SheWee watched over her when no one else was there.
With Carolyn I decided to have a mini reunion in Evelyn’s honor. Family members and close friends were invited. I did the cooking and Carolyn did the calling. Fifty people were able to join us after church on Sunday for food and fellowship. Everyone spoke in unison by phone to Evelyn.
Later dinner was taken to Evelyn. She and her roommate, nurses, friends and family had a special party just for her. She thoroughly enjoyed the special attention given to her, and she really enjoyed the pound cake, peach cobbler, mac & cheese, rosemary chicken, ambrosia, and the rest of the feast.
My time with my baby sister, again, was sooooo bittersweet. I am forever grateful that I was able to spend quality time with her before the end! She was her usual feisty, funny, loving and handful self. She loved her whole family and all of her friends with all her heart. And most of all she loved the Lord!
Say “Hello” to Daddy, Momma, Bubba, Grandma Polly, Aunt Ever, Uncle George and all of our loved ones up yonder!
Love forever,
Your Big Sister Jackie.
